The Invisalign system is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth and achieve the smile you’ve always wanted. During Invisalign treatment, you wear a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth. No brackets and wires, and none of the restrictions that come with metal braces. Invisalign clear aligners are made of flexible plastic — specifically, a patented thermoplastic material called SmartTrack® created exclusively for Invisalign treatment. These aligners move your teeth little by little. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being replaced by the next in the series until the final position of your teeth is achieved. Invisalign clear aligners are FDA-approved and contain no BPA, BPS, latex, or gluten.
Invisalign aligners are clear, which makes Invisalign treatment a seamless fit with your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others. Invisalign aligners are also removable. Unlike braces, you have the flexibility to eat and drink what you want during treatment simply by removing the aligners when you eat. You can also remove the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would for fresh breath and good oral hygiene. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign treatment does not use metal brackets or wires that could cause irritation to your mouth. In addition, you’ll spend less time in the doctor’s chair and scheduling appointments, and more time out doing the things you love. Lastly, Invisalign treatment technology allows you to view your virtual results and treatment plan before you start your treatment, so you can preview how your straight teeth will look once your treatment is complete.
Invisalign treatment can be a great solution for both adults and teens looking for a virtually invisible method to improve their smile. Invisalign makes it possible to fix nearly all common teeth-straightening and bite issues, from simple to complex — all without interrupting your busy life. During your initial consultation, your orthodontist will be able to let you know how Invisalign can work for you based on your particular case.
Your teeth will feel a little sensitive for a day or two when you put in a new set of aligners. This just means Invisalign is working and your teeth are moving into place. Discomfort is mild and goes away quickly. For most patients, the discomfort is almost unnoticeable.
Just as with any orthodontic treatment, it takes a few days to adjust to having something in your mouth. Most patients say they don’t notice any change in their speech while others have a little bit of lisp for the first couple of days. Your speech will go back to normal once you acclimate to your aligners.
There are no adjustments to make, and so we usually recommend visits 6-8 weeks apart, and sometimes even less often, just to make sure treatment is progressing as it should.
Over 9 million people, including more than 1.4 million teens, have used Invisalign clear aligners to transform their smiles. The number of Invisalign smiles grows daily. At your next appointment, we can answer any questions you might have, and get you started on the smile you’ve always wanted.
