To ensure that you receive the most appropriate treatment, and that your needs are met with understanding, respect, and full commitment from our team at Hometown Orthodontics, we care for you acknowledging that adults and children have different needs, and require a different level of attention.
While there is no exact age for children to begin orthodontic treatment, the Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends visiting an orthodontist around age seven. Early treatment allows an orthodontist to correct and guide your child’s jaws, to create more space for crowded teeth and avoid the need for extractions later in life, and to correct thumb sucking and minor speech problems. Your child might need to see an orthodontist if you observe crowded or misplaced teeth, difficulty chewing or biting, mouth breathing, thumb-sucking, or popping jaws.
Braces now come in a variety of styles, materials, and colours making life with braces much easier, more comfortable, and even more stylish than in the past. Braces are no longer as scary as you may think. In fact, there are several treatment options to choose from, including metal, ceramic, and invisible braces.
Adolescents are not the only ones who can benefit from orthodontic treatment. In fact, a third of our patients are over 18 years old. Regardless of your age, you can still achieve a more beautiful smile with the right orthodontic remedy!
Adults choose to receive orthodontic treatment for themselves because they want to feel better about their appearance, they understand the importance of maintaining their health and possibly their parents were unable to provide it for them when they were younger. Today, orthodontic treatments offer a variety of options including, but not limited to, smaller self-ligating braces. Adults can also choose appliances that are comfortable, aesthetic, and customized, such as Invisalign. A straight smile isn’t just beautiful, it helps maintain the health of your teeth for life!
